Cook It Until It Softens

Cook It Until It Softens consists in the handmade creation of a dress, using fabric crafted from images. Taken from a daily video diary, the images are printed on cotton scraps and sewn together following the measurements of my body.

Emerged in response to personal and collective narratives, this pro- ject is a work in progress, driven by the urgency to rethink the space in which we relate to others and to the world we inhabit. To do so, it moves from the optical experience of images to a haptic experience which, by its very definition, is a relational experience that places us in direct contact with the other.

In a manner reminiscent of child’s play, the images are assembled and give shape to new surfaces. Like a second skin or a very light suit of armour, the dress witnesses an intimate link with these images. Through the act of sewing, I aim to confer them a presence and discover new modes of existence. The dress both conceals and unveils parts of the body, much like the body itself, it becomes a canvas for emotions and memories that represents an evolving way of being in the world, continually made, unmade and remade.
